Sphinx take the points in an entertaining game

Lichfield City produced a lively attacking display but lose out in an entertaining encounter against Sphinx.

Smith opened the game with a stunning 20-yard strike that cannoned in off the crossbar to give Coventry Sphinx the lead.

Taylor was lively throughout, first seeing a cross land on the roof of the net before cutting inside for a blocked effort.

Sphinx responded well, their keeper pulling off a superb save to deny Edwards after a deflection.

Carey then doubled the lead with a spectacular 20-yard screamer into the top corner.

Lichfield enjoyed a dominant spell, Brown’s shot blocked before Mills calmly tucked home the rebound to get a goal back.

Yet the hosts missed further chances, Taylor heading over from an Edwards cross. Sphinx stayed resilient, Mansell’s delivery drifting wide and Bunn saving low late on, ensuring the points went Sphinx’s way.
