Lichfield get their first win at Step 4

Bedworth Town 0 - 1 Lichfield City

Lichfield's first away game of the season started of a positive one. The first notable chance saw Jack Edwards hold off defenders within the box in order for him to turn and shoot. Unfortunately, his shot on the pivot was deflected and, in the end, caught by William Highland.

After their good start, the ball was fed wide to James Wilcock who did superbly to cross accurately towards the prepared Jude Taylor, poised for the ball in the box. Taylor's header looped over the flailing keeper and in the back of the net, giving the well deserved advantage to Lichfield.

However, Bedworth gave the leaders a warning with an attack down the other end. Louis Monaghan turned away from his marker, but his tame shot was met with an easy save for Brendon Bunn. The home side showing they weren't going to roll over.

After defending well, Lichfield got the ball quickly out wide to Jack Bostock, who after looking up, curled a searching ball towards the back post where both Taylor and Edwards were waiting but keeper Highland did well to catch.

Good link up play between Leighton McMenemy and Jamie Spiers allowed for Spiers to attempt a cross to the back post which, yet again, finds Taylor. His shot seemed to bobble after leaving his foot, hit the post and was collected by Highland.

Chance after chance come beckoning Lichfield's way, this time with an Edwards free - kick which was met by Bostock. His header back towards the crowded box found Taylor, but he was unable to connect with his volley and snatches at it, a chance somewhat wasted.

Bedworth had the final chance of the half, Callum Flanagan pitched a looping ball over the top to Elliot Parrot who, under pressure from Joe Haines, got a header off which caused Bunn no trouble, Lichfield ending the half a better team.

Bedworth seemed to wake up more as the second half started. George Dunkley tried to play through Louis Monaghan, which was nearly successful, but an excellent sliding challenge from Haines intercepted the ball and allowed for Lichfield to regain possession.

With newfound momentum, it was Bedford again with the next chance. Dunkley dangerously burst into the box, but was tracked down and stopped by Taylor just before he could pull a shot off, a chance wasted for the hosts.

After a clearance lands at Jordan Clements' feet on the hallway line, it looked like he was going to start a counter attack. However, as the ball was still bouncing after collecting it, he attempted a lucrative half volley from the half way mark but it bounced wide of the target.

After withstanding a period of pressure from Bedworth, Lichfield started to pick up the pace wants again. Edwards played an accurate ball in behind for Spiers who was through one on one with the keeper. Unfortunately, after attempted to lift his shot over the keeper, it struck his shoulder and the danger was cleared.

After a Lichfield corner was only half cleared, John Mills met it at the edge of the box, striking the ball with his laces. His volley sailed through the sea of players but bounces just to the left of the post.

Haines, who drove the ball forward from the defence, played Taylor out wide. Taylor advanced on the goal, getting close to the 5 yard box but his shot was from a difficult angle and concluded in being wide and over, a chance for Lichfield to bury the game.

Within the closing minutes Bedworth truly went for it with Lichfield digging in defensively. The final key chance of the game was a free kick from Ashley Sammons. The shot from the edge of the box curled around the wall and forced Bunn into an excellent diving save.
