Lichfield City confirm their season-long unbeaten home run with a 2-1 win over Studley

A fantastic performance from Ivor Green’s side saw Lichfield record a win in the final game of their regular season campaign.

Goals from Dan “Wonder” Smith and Joe Haines fired City to a 2-1 win over Studley as they rounded off a full season unbeaten at home in the league.

Having taken just a point from their previous three contests, the hosts were in serious need of a win and a confidence boost ahead of their upcoming play-off campaign.

Lichfield made two changes from their midweek clash against Highgate, as Ronnie Holt and return signing Tom Brown came in to replace Josh Wykes and the injured Dan Lomas.

A break down the left-hand side saw the visitors take the lead early on, as Bailey Fuller slid the ball past James Beeson to go a goal up after just seven minutes.

Jack Edwards nearly found a way to unlock the Studley defence in reply, but his ball across the face of goal was cleared behind for a corner.

Jude Taylor and Dan Smith then combined to find a leveller. Taylor tore down the right-hand side and squared it to Smith who headed home his 34th goal of the season.

Smith and Dom Lewis both came close again but balls in from the left and the right flew just inches too high for either of them to connect.

Smith came close again, but Lichfield went into the break all-square.

Lewi Burnside was forced off early in the second half, seeing Josh Wykes make his 16th appearance of the season.

Lichfield then took the lead from a short free kick as Haines smashed a powerful effort into the bottom right-hand corner of the Studley goal.

Some nice interplay between Lewis and Luke Childs saw the latter break into space and fire into the keeper’s arms, before Jude Taylor poked a shot wide from inside the area.

An acrobatic save from the Studley keeper prevented Jake Bromley from opening his first-team account for Lichfield, before the referee called an end to their regular season campaign.

Lichfield City will return to the Trade Tyre Community in two weeks (27th April), as they continue their bid for promotion in the pay-off semi-finals.
