Edwards Hat-Trick Helps Lichfield Progress in The Staffs Senior Cup

The game started of quickly as Brendon Bunn is caught of his line by Ernest Ofusu with a lucrative long shor from the half way line looping in, giving them the advantage.

Looking for a response, Dan Lomas attempts a half volley from distance but strikes the right hand post.

With momentum on Lichfield’s behalf, Jack Edwards cuts inside but, on this occasion, his shot was wide.

Really pushing for an equaliser, Jack Bostock met a cross at the back post, with his header hitting the side netting.

The equaliser came finaly as Edwards, yet again, cut inside and accurately whipped his shot into the top right corner, a goal back. 

After lack lustre passing on the Newcastle Town’s behalf, Edwards dispossess the defender, gliding past him and slotting it in the bottom left corner, advantage to Lichfield - 2-1.

Chances were coming thick and fast for Lichfield, and Edwards capitalised on yet another defensive mistake as he intercepted a clearance, and lobs the keeper on the half volley making it 3-1.

The last goal of the first half also fell to Lichfield, as Edwards crossed it to Jack Bostock who layed it of to Jude Taylor who smashed it in the near post, seemingly killing the game at 4-1.

Second half starting slightly slower than the first, Taylor runs in behind to meet a pass from Luke Childs but his outstretched foot narrowly missed the ball.

Looking for a fourth, Edwards ran onto a ball in the box, but his low driven shot forced a save from keeper Joe Slinn.

Pushing to increase Lichfield’s advantage even more, Taylor received a ball over the top but as he was one on one with the defender his shot was blocked.

Despite being on the pitch for mere minutes, Josh Mansell dispossesses an unprepared Newcastle Town midfielder and smashes the ball over Slinn and into the roof of the net, making it 5.

Down the other end, Neecastle Town get a consolation goal. As Joel Jones receives the ball in behind, he calmly slots the ball around the keeper in the bottom left, doubling their tally.

Looking for a response, Edwards held the ball out wide and his cross to the back post met Kieran Francis, but his header sailed over the bar.

As the game was coming to a close, Jones intercepts a bad pass from Bunn, where he was able to chip the ball over him and into the net. Decreasing the score to 5-3.
