J.W. Hunt Cup quarter-final up next for Lichfield City

Lichfield City will be hoping to take another step towards defending their J.W. Hunt Cup title as they Welcome Paget Rangers to Trade Tyre Community Stadium.

Following Saturday’s 2-0 league victory over promotion rivals Highgate United, City will turn their attention back to cup football and play in their second quarter-final in the space of 3 weeks.

Lichfield kicked off the first round of the competition with a 5-0 win over Dudley Town back in November, before a Cameron Dunn brace secured a 2-1 win over Wednesfield to earn them their spot in the final eight.

Dunn is just one of Ivor Green’s attacking options that have more than impressed this year. His exploits were best showcased when he struck two more for his side at the start of February in City’s 6-0 win over Northwich Victoria.

Lichfield’s defensive personnel also deserve plaudits for their steadfast performances so far this season, as they have shed fewer goals than any other side in the Midlands Football League Premier Division.

The Lichfield faithful will be hoping that defence and attack will combine once more to beat Paget Rangers and earn a semi-final spot in the J.W. Hunt Cup.

The Bears won their opening game of the cup 2-0 against Lane Head, but it took for their second-round opponents, Bilston Town, to be removed from competition for them to make the quarter-final.

Wednesday night’s visitors have struggled as of late and have only won one of their last five league encounters.

A result against Paget Rangers would mean that just one more game will stand between Lichfield City and a return to the Molineux.

Kick off at the Trade Tyre Community Stadium is at 7:45pm (Wednesday 21st February).
