City to face Wednesfield in League Cup quarter-final

Lichfield City will hit the road again tomorrow night to play out their Midlands Football League Cup quarter-final tie against Wednesfield.

After the weekend’s away clash against Highgate United was postponed, Ivor Green’s men will play out their second of back-to-back cup quarter finals, in what promises to be a good contest, ahead of a blockbuster league fixture this Saturday against Congleton Town.

It has been less than a week since Leighton McMenemy, Luke Childs, Dan Lomas, Liam Kirton and Jack Edwards all struck home to seal a 6-2 J.W. Hunt Cup quarter-final victory over Paget Rangers.

City’s latest cup test, however, are expected to make for a closer game, as they currently sit fourth in the Midlands Football League Division 1, with their sights set firmly upon promotion.

Wednesfield go into the game having won all of their last five games. In fact, their last defeat came against Lichfield when two goals from Cameron Dunn saw City progress from the second round of the J.W. Hunt Cup.

Meanwhile, Lichfield’s form has only continued to excel in recent weeks, having taken three points from all their previous seven league games, as well as coming out on top in two cup quarter-final ties since the turn of the year.

The Lichfield faithful will be hoping for a repeat of the two sides’ last encounter, as a victory would see them take on this weekend’s opponents Congleton Town in the semi-finals - a game that could boast some of the highest quality that the Midlands Football League has to offer.

Kick off at the Cottage ground, Wednesfield, is at 7:45pm.
